If you are new to internet marketing, looking to expand your present business, or looking for ways to better communicate with your mail lists then you may have heard about using aotoresponders. You may also be wondering what an Autoresponder is. I will try to give you a definition of what an autoresponder is, how it works and why you should use one. I will also try to give examples of ways to use an autoresponder. Some other questions you may have are if autoresponders are only to be used if you have a business online, or if you should consider buying one even though you have no intention of earning money from the internet. I will try to address some of the questions.
By definition, “An autoresponder is a computer program that automatically answers e-mail sent to it. They can be very simple or quite complex.” – Wikipedia. Pretty easy, huh? They really are not any more complex than that!
How do you use autoresonders? Basically, there are couple of ways to use an autoresponder:
-
Broadcasts
-
RSS feeds
With broacast messages, you can write messages and have them sent out directly to all the people on your list. Or, you can do pre-wrriten messages that you can automaticalyy send. For an example, If you have 3 e-mails sent to your list every third day, you will have a better chance of making a lot more sales or connections through the repitition. These are features many internet marketers use as you may have seen if you ever got on someone’s list.
With an RSS Feed, you send your latest blog posts, site updates, or key information to your list of people. As soon as you have published something to note, all the people on your list can get an e-mail with the subject at hand, a few sentences with information about about it, and a link to that directs your readers to the ne posting to read the rest of your new update. This is a great way to get attention to your blog (if you have one) or website to people that might not read it on a daily basis.
So, why should you use an autoresponder? There 3 reasons why I think you should use an autoresponder:
-
You want to have an audience and build a list
-
Automate your communication process
-
And, send an immediate personal response to each person
Autoresonders are a great way to communicate and keep in touch with large audiences. You might be trying to sell something, or you might have a large family that you may have tried the family newsletter to share current “goings on” in your family with everyone in your extended family. Sharing a newsletter with everyone can be fun, informative and helpful to distant relatives who may be indisposed. However, the traditional paper, stamp mailer newsletter suffers from several different flaws. Autoresponders can help remedy that for your failily members that have e-mail adresses!
If you are selling something, the use of autoresponder will help make the sales process much easier. You can pre-write as many messages, and then tell the system exactly when each message should be sent to the people on your distribution list. So when you have a new person subscribing to your list for your autoresponder, the rest of the sales process is automated. All the e-mails you have written about what you are selling will be sent automatically to the person, and you can be anywhere in the offline world.
A nice benefit of the autoresponder is that you can personalize small parts of each e-mail. Usually on your basic mail browser, if you send e-mail to a list of people, you can’t write personal e-mails using each persons name because everybody on the list will receive exactly the same email. With an autoresponder, you can send a different email to each person, such as Hello Bob. The content of the mail is all the same to everyone on the list, but you can personalize small parts of the message. This makes a huge difference over something that broadcasted the traditional way and makes the person on the list feel as if they are being contacted directly.
Again, you don’t need to have something to sell in order to use an autoresponder. Autoresponders are good if you have a large group of readers to communicate with. For example, say you area significant leader a large company or department and you want to use an autoresponder for internal communication. With an autoreponder, you can get more personal with your colleagues. Or, if you are offering a service and you’d like to be communicating with people that might be interested in it, but they are not really sure, they would like some more information about the service. An autoreosnder will send all on your lists all the various information automatically! How cool is that?
I hope that what I have described here today can help show you that there are many ways to use an autoresponder. There are many different reasons why you can use an autoresponder. One os the autoresponders I like is AWeber because it features a tool to send out “blog broadcasts”. You can send out the most recent, or the last 5, or whatever you post on your blog, and track who’s clicking through and when. AWeber will do this automatically from your RSS feed. And, of course, you’ll be building a mailing list of your own!
